David Shapiro - Founder & CEO

My career spans four decades of experience as a serial entrepreneur, author, and industry thought leader. If I’m not building a solution to a complex problem, I’m most likely either turning around a company that has lost its way or writing about something that is near and dear to my life or my business interests.

I started my career building investment products that helped consumers create and manage wealth. I mostly consulted with large insurance and mutual fund companies that lacked an understanding of needs-based selling, i.e. putting the actual needs of the consumer first. Along the way, I wrote or co-wrote three books on wealth creation and management. My first large scale turnaround was North American Life, a massive 100-year-old insurance company that had been purchased by Harold Ganeen, the father of the multinational conglomerate. I followed that success by building and selling two financial services companies. I sold my first company, NFC Consulting to Safeco Corporation.

I sold my second company, Info-One, a broad and complex SAAS based research and transaction engine to Wachovia Bank (Wells Fargo). My crowning career achievements include working directly with Hal Ganeen and being honored when Ruth Ginsberg used passages from my book “Annuities” in a majority opinion issued by the Supreme Court in 1995.

Bob Gionfriddo, Co-Founder, Executive Vice President

Community business banking and building operational businesses that create value for shareholders and investors are my passion and my strength. Throughout my over 40-year career, I have developed considerable experience in strategic planning & marketing, sales management & leadership, and business development. I have also specialized in relationship management and corporate partnerships, mostly in Silicon Valley.

Before co-founding EquiFi, I successfully raised over $100M for all the banking institutions I helped fund which were then and are currently publicly traded on the NASDAQ market.

My community banking career began as Executive Vice President and Director of Corporate Marketing for San Jose based Plaza Bank of Commerce. Prior to joining Focus Business Bank, I was Silicon Valley Regional President for Community Bank of the Bay, Director, Executive Vice President and President of Specialty Markets for Bridge Bank and Co-Founder, Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President of Heritage Bank of Commerce.

Laura (Scafa) Hill - Product

Achieving socio-economical improvement through financial innovation is my primary driver and interest.

I have a B.A. in International Economics and Management, and an MBA with concentration in Finance. I am also a certified Project Manager. About 10 years ago, I started out my career as an intern at the United Nations in New York, with the Peacekeeping Missions, Field of Budget and Finance.

After completing my graduate studies, I accepted a position as research fellow at the Inter-American Development Bank, in Washington, DC. The next opportunity led me to a consulting practice focused on consumer lending, at PwC. While learning the cycle and structure of traditional debt, I uncovered my passion for home financing options.

When I explored EquiFi and its equity sharing product, I saw an immense potential and I experienced a complete alignment of my skill-set and passion with the vision and foundation of the company. Enthusiastically, I joined at the very early stage. I believe homes cover a major role in our life and existing debt-based instruments do not properly meet the needs of many consumers in the market. EquiFi brings a solution to a very real challenge for prospective home buyers, as well as current homeowners.

Nunzio Masone, CFA - Capital Markets

I have a passion for creating businesses and solutions that address the needs of consumers, whether they are homeowners, investors, or entrepreneurs.   I think, especially post-crisis, that the convergence of technology, infrastructure and market opportunity makes for fertile ground to innovate in financial services.  With significant experience starting businesses in mortgage finance, origination, trading, structuring, investment management, insurance and distribution, I am excited about what EquiFi can do to help the consumer.

At EquiFi, we are bridging the desire for investors to have innovative access to residential real estate, and for consumers to find a more efficient way to finance their homes, which are often the largest asset we own.  Building that connectivity can make the world of retirement planning, home financing, and insurance-related products more meaningful to clients, helping them to achieve their goals with more confidence than ever.

 I have a BS from Syracuse University, an MBA from Columbia Business School, 15 years of sell side investment banking and capital markets experience and 15 years of buy-side investment management experience.  With my diverse expertise set in a financial services career that highlights developing products and solutions that address the needs of market participants, I am excited to improve the ecosystem that currently delivers solutions to homeowners, investors, and lenders.  I am exited to help EquiFi deliver on its promise to help  people live life more fully.

Shannon Miller - Origination

I have always been passionate about helping homeowners and home buyers achieve their goals in real estate. I hold a B.S. in Finance from San Diego State University. Additionally, I have 25 years of mortgage origination experience in Silicon Valley, which has spanned many facets of this ever-changing  and fascinating industry. Because home is pivotal in everyone's life, I enjoy assisting consumers as they take their next step. 

I began my career as a loan officer right out of college, and it was an immediate fit for me. I have also enjoyed positions in administration, including heading up the mortgage division of a real estate start-up company, leading teams of loan officers as a Branch Manager, and running the processing division for one of the early versions of what EquiFi is today.

Working with EquiFi has proven to be a creative and stimulating process. Because I see first-hand the challenges of homeownership with my clients, I am very excited about our non-debt-based home financing option. It revolutionizes how people can purchase and leverage their homes, and ultimately achieve their overall financial goals. The EFI™ changes the industry and expands the use of equity for our customers.
